National Do Not Call List

On September 30, 2008 the National Do No Call List (DNCL) came into effect. Serecon undertakes projects wherein marketing, survey and public opinion information is gathered. Calls made for these purposes are exempt from the DNCL. A definition of these types of calls, taken from Canada’s National Do No Call List – Quick Fact Sheet follows:

“The CRTC, which administers the DNCL, differentiates survey research as:

Calls made for the purpose of market research, polls or surveys are not considered telemarketing calls. Organizations making these types of calls are not required to register with the National DNCL, maintain their own do not call lists or comply with the CRTC’s Telemarketing Rules and Automatic Dialing and Announcing Device Rules.”

Although marketing, surveys and public research calls are exempt from the legislation, the survey research call centers that Serecon contracts for data collection have been handling these requests internally for the past several years. If a household requests that they not be called again, they are removed from the sample lists for calling and flagged as a household refusal.
